Take a Hike

I took Michael hiking at a nearby hike and bike trail awhile back. He was so much fun to walk with.

He brought a pack with a marker and a notebook (which was actually a coloring book) for taking notes. What did he want to draw and examine? Scat. He has a book about taking a hike in a National Park and examining scat to discuss different animals. But, he got a little too close and said, "Ewwww...it smells." He backed up, and drew the scat from a safe, less smelly difference. (I say scat, but it was dog poop...not very exciting...)

At another point, he bent down to examine tracks. He even picked up some dirt and rubbed it between his forefinger and thumb. He gave it a sniff. (Glad he didn't do that with the poop.)

We enjoyed our hike and seeing all the sites.

Keeping Up with a New Year's Resolution

Michael wrote a New Year's resolution at school.

He wants to be a better runner.

How's it going? Oh pretty good...

Birthday Celebration

I had a bit of an extended birthday celebration because we went out a couple times and used birthday coupons from various places.

For Christmas, I had given David a Fogo de Chão gift card. It's an all-you-can-eat Brazilian Steakhouse. And it is amazing! Well, they sent me a little gift credit towards a meal, so that and the gift card got both David and me a wonderful lunch! Happy Birthday to me and Merry Christmas to David!

We were soooooo stuffed when the server offered dessert. We said no, and while we waited for the check we were making fun of the people eating dessert (how do they have any room?!). Then, the check came and I presented the birthday credit, the server asked if we had made a reservation for the birthday and that I could get a complimentary dessert. And then he said the magic words. They have CHOCOLATE CAKE! Well, okay.....

It was beautiful and delicious. The whole meal was awesome. And neither of us was hungry for the rest of the day.

We also went out to dinner with family in the Woodlands (on a different day when we weren't so stuffed). I didn't get a pic with everyone, so here's one of me and David:

Oh yeah!!! What a fun evening. Plus I was with this cute Texas boy:

But, my birthday celebrating was not over.

On my actual birthday, we got dinner at Genghis Grill (another freebie), and then we headed to downtown Houston to see Field of Light, a temporary exhibit at Discovery Green.

And there was dessert. David made a chocolate caramel pie with an Oreo crust, at my request.

Let's just keep on celebrating....

We also got pizza the following week at Grimaldi's. They serve delicious New York style pizza. And, while you wait, they give kids dough to play with:

There were eight slices of pizza. I had one, and David and two. We figured Michael would have two. Boy, were we wrong! He finished his first slice and said confidently that he was going to get all the rest of the pizza! He actually did eat half the pizza...four slices...more than David and I combined. He was doing Man v. Food hand gestures, and one this day, man won.

All in all, I'd say if was a very sweet birthday!
