We visited Port Arthur last week for Jacob and Phoebe's wedding. Jacob is David's cousin and Michael's godfather. They were married at St. Peter's in Groves. It's really nice to get together with family for a happy occasion!
Michael looked dapper in his dress clothes. He called them "gentlemen clothes." David was looking dapper himself.
Here I am with my sister-in-law, Kristen:
Once we were at the reception, Michael entertained us with his dance skills. It's fun to watch but even more fun to join him!
Later on in the night, he was break dancing with another boy. They were spinning on their backs on the floor and jumping up. Sorry I didn't get that on film! Some say he got the dancing gene from me...of course! As my mom pointed out, he is part Go-Go!

Sporty Summer
It's hard to believe that it is almost mid-August. School will start at the end of the month...kindergarten! Much of our time this summer has been devoted to organized sports--tennis and soccer. Plus we got in plenty of pool time.
Tennis Practice
Tennis was perhaps the surprise hit of the summer. Houston Parks and the Houston Youth Tennis Association offered free lessons in June and July. I had Michael signed up for the first session, and he was so disappointed that the month was over. I went ahead and signed him up for July too! The 45-minute sessions were held weekday mornings (Monday-Thursday). We're also able to use a neighborhood tennis court, so Michael and I will go and hit some balls. We are not playing games yet, but we can volley a little bit.
Soccer
Soccer at the Y. We've had some canceled practices and games because of rain, and sometimes not many of the kids have shown up. Regardless, Michael and the other kids have improved A LOT since their first game. For one, they are starting to run with the ball, not just walk. It's also fun to see Michael interact as a team member.

The Pool
Between tennis and soccer practices, I didn't get Michael signed up for swim lessons this summer. But, we have a neighborhood pool and go quite a lot! Michael has improved a lot in the water from the beginning of the summer. He is showing a lot more comfort going under water. He is also swimming under water (taking a deep breath, going under water, swimming, and then standing up to come back up to the surface). I've been working on floating and strokes with him. The pool has a three foot, and that's been the perfect depth to work with him and develop confidence. He will swim to the pool's floor to pick up toys and bring them back up to the surface. I can take him to the four foot, and we have practiced swimming a few strokes from me to the wall. And, you might just hear him yell "CANNONBALL" when he jumps in.
