November Birthday Parties

Michael had a lot of fun in November going to a few classmates' birthday parties. One had a Jurassic World theme, and the other was held at a gymnastics studio.

Halloween 2015

Halloween 2015 is in the books. Granddadders and Nini were in Texas for a visit! They were able to see one of Michael's Tae Kwon Do classes, help with some Cub Scout activities, and carve a pumpkin with Michael.

This year, Michael was Ant-Man. He was joined by fellow Marvel heroes, Nick Fury and Falcon. Since Michael was Scott Lang, the "new" Ant-Man, Granddadders played "old" Hank Pym (the original Ant-Man). And, since Ant-Man can talk to ants, he had a few of those too (thanks to Nini and Aunt Jill).

Fun Run

Michael participated in a school fundraiser, and he definitely appreciated the sponsors who donated to help him raise money for the school. 

His class wore matching tie dye shirts and had a lot of class spirit! Michael and I made the sign below. The other side read, "Go, Go Michael!" 

Michael took the running VERY seriously. He ran nonstop! He did 36 laps, which the organizers said was around two miles.

It was a fun run!

School Year So Far

We're almost to Thanksgiving Break. It's been busy at school but great! 

Here's the first day of school:

Through his teeth, Michael was saying, "Take the picture already."

The school sponsored a "Walk to School" day. The kids were encouraged to wear green, and there was music playing and sidewalk chalk. Michael thought it was pretty cool.

Michael's class has a "class monkey" named Spunky, and the kids take turns taking the monkey home for the weekend. Michael got him last weekend, and Spunky had a busy weekend with us.

He got a spa treatment, watched Saturday football with us, and went to College Station to see an A&M volleyball game. 

There was a bike rodeo. Michael is still practicing his biking skills, but he did his best to do the obstacle course!

Every once in awhile, I go up to the school to help shelve books at the library and see Michael during lunch. I'm so glad he likes his school, and he's making some great friends and learning so much! He's doing well in school.

Road Trip to New Mexico

Michael and I took a road trip to New Mexico last month. I haven't had time to do a proper post, but here are some highlights...

1. Abiline, Texas

Our stop in Abilene was a lot of fun! We were there on a Thursday evening, and The Grace Museum was open late. We looked at art, and the museum also had a great children's area. There was also a small parade outside with a zombie theme.

2. Lubbock, Texas

We spent the night in Lubbock, and before we got on the road the next day, we visited two museums. The first was the Buddy Holly Center, which also included a tour of the house of a bandmate and friend of Buddy Holly (where the boys used to practice).

The other stop was the Silent Wings Museum. This museum tells the interesting story of the Glider program, emphasizing the use of these "silent" wings in WWII to deliver supplies and troops to battle sites. (As Michael would say...Captain America's war.)

3. Clovis, New Mexico

The Clovis site is well-known in anthropology because of the finds associated with early cultures in America. Michael particularly enjoyed the paleontological finds.

4. Albuquerque, New Mexico

The primary purpose of this trip was to visit with my friend and her family in Albuquerque. We went to the amazing Balloon Fiesta, enjoyed New Mexican cuisine, and went hiking at Petroglyph National Monument.

5. Santa Fe, New Mexico

Day trip to Santa Fe included some shopping and visits to historic churches. My friend's mom is from Santa Fe, so she was a great tour guide!

6. Amarillo, Texas

On our way back home, Michael and I stopped at Cadillac Ranch, an interactive experience where visitors can spray paint the Cadillacs sticking up out of the ground.

7. Irving, Texas

We detoured a bit to the Irving Arts Center to see an traveling exhibit, David (Shannon) Goes to the Museum. David Shannon is one of Michael's favorite authors/illustrators. The center also had some other great exhibits. We also made a quick shop at a Scout shop and lunch at In-N-Out.
