Play group

We had "baby club" today. Sometimes, it seems funny to call it a play group because, well, they just don't play in a group. They do play in the vicinity of one another. We love hanging out with James and Eli (and their mommies). This month, we also had a baby girl, Audrey, join us. We hope to see her again next month!

Just before nap time, Michael calms down enough to read me a story:

Michael has style

The teachers at Michael's school styled his hair. It looked really cute, almost reminiscent of a Gerber baby:

Poor Diamond!

Poor Diamond! It's not easy being a 16-almost-17-year-old dog. I took her into the vet today to check out some "owies" on her belly. It looks like she has a staph infection, so she's on more medication for that. She doesn't mind getting her meds when I put them in "pill pocket" treats. I also have her wearing a collar, so she doesn't make her wounds any worse. Fortunately, my parents sent me a blow-up collar a few years ago when she had surgery. It's better than the Elizabethan collars for dogs, and it doubles as a pillow. Sweet puppy dreams.

Michael has been coughing and running a slight fever. He has also been sleeping quite fitfully. I decided to take him into the doctor's today. It's sometimes a tough call as to whether or not to visit the doctor's office. On one hand, it could be just a bad cold and then I would've paid the co-pay for nothing. Yet, it could be more serious and the symptoms had been around awhile. So...I decided to take him in.

Turns out Michael has an ear infection. He gets to take "the pink stuff" for the next 10 days. Hopefully, we won't have to deal with lots of ear infections in the future!

St. Louis!

We went to St. Louis (April 13-17). I attended the Society for American Archaeology 75th Anniversary Meeting and presented a paper. Since we traveled as a family, we made time for some fun stuff too!

We went to the Wednesday evening matchup between the Astros and the Cardinals. We were decked out in our Astros gear. Unfortunately, we didn't see a Houston win. David wrote about the game at:

We had dinner with my Phi Sigma Pi brothers Tim & Carrie (now married) at McGurk's Irish Pub. Dessert was the world-famous custard at Ted Drewes. Michael had a little bit of custard and LOVED it. We may have to get it shipped...but luckily I think he'll enjoy Blue Belle too.

We met my friend Ken (from my Truman days) for lunch at Crown Candy. I tried to convince David to try to do the five malt challenge featured on Man vs. Food, but he just wouldn't do it! (You have to drink five malts in 30 minutes. Man lost on that episode!)

We had a terrific visit to the St. Louis Zoo. Michael played hide-and-seek with the gorillas, and he enjoyed seeing the hippos and elephants! We went to Union Station and ate at the Hard Rock. On our final day in St. Louis, we visited The Magic House--the city's children's museum. Michael climbed all over a play area they had for children under 24 months. He went down the slide and then proceeded to go up it!

Michael got some books in his Easter basket. One is Little Hands Love. Here, Michael is showing that "Little hands love fluffy, white cotton." Michael loves using that pointer finger to check things out.

Easter

For Easter, we had our good friends Brad and Kristen over for dinner. We all agreed that if you can't be with your family on the holidays, it's a blessing to have good friends.
